A 2-car trailer is a trailer that can carry 2 cars utilizing a single tow vehicle. These trailers come in 3 varieties:
Enclosed gooseneck | Open gooseneck | Bumper-pull stacker trailers |
An enclosed gooseneck car hauler is generally a minimum of 40 feet long but can be as long as 53 feet. | Open goosenecks can range in size depending on their design. A flatbed will generally start at 44 feet long and range up to 48 feet long, while an over-the-cab model can be as small as 40 feet. | A 2-car stacker trailer or enclosed trailer is generally recommended due to the protection they provide from road hazards during transport. These all utilize radial tires. |

The 2-car stack trailer includes a lift, a tie-down system, and an e-Track.
A lift is used when one car is raised, another one can securely fit underneath.
A tie-down system is another component that comes with our 2-car trailers for sale that has a minimum of 6 tie-down points, but often even more.
You should also consider an e-Track if the cars you will be hauling are of different sizes. A stack used as 2-car trailers normally is a minimum of 24 feet and comes as long as 34 feet.
When purchasing car trailers for hauling, the length of a trailer, although a fundamental factor, should be considered alongside a frame material. These two criteria will reflect the performance and longevity of your double-car hauler trailer.
If your main purpose centers around hauling cars, don’t forget to check for a tie-down system and opt for an aluminum or steel 2-car trailer frame.
When purchasing a gooseneck trailer, there generally exists an eight-foot area in the front of the trailer that connects to the tow vehicle. This area is generally counted in the length of the trailer and needs to be subtracted from the overall length to calculate floor length.
This is to say a 48′ trailer offers 40′ of floor space. Do not make the mistake of buying a 40′ trailer and only having 32′ of floor length. A 32′ trailer is not likely to be suitable for a 2-car trailer.
We highly recommend checking a 32’ 2-car trailer for sale if you would like it to accommodate 2 cars. And a 40’ trailer is likely big enough to haul 3 cars at once.
It is critical to secure a car in a trailer so that it will be transported safely at any speed. Currently, two systems exist for securing cars during transit:
D-Ring |
E-Track |
The classic type of tie-down, the D-Ring, secures your load as heavy as cars.
To ensure safe transportation, 4 or more D-rings are equipped on each car. |
E-Track is secured to the floor in two or more rows and is attached with a clip system.
E-Track is more flexible in that it allows a tie-down to be placed every few inches, perfect for hauling cars of different sizes. |
Both tie-down systems are solid and reliable, but each of them proves best in different cases. D-rings can be a great solution if you are hauling the same cars all the time, while e-Tracks work best when you transport loads of different sizes. At the same time, D-rings offer additional capacity and do not require a small tether with a specialized clip.
When browsing 2-car trailers for sale, you will notice they come with either steel or aluminum frames. While both of them are great, only one of them adds an extra benefit – an aluminum frame.
Opting for an aluminum 2-car trailer offers several advantages compared to a steel frame. While some assume that aluminum trailers are significantly lighter, in reality, the weight difference is typically less than 10% due to the use of a steel box tube. This makes a small reduction in fuel consumption
The real benefit is the longevity of the aluminum frame. Aluminum does not rust and will not oxidize when placed next to other aluminum, like steel. These two factors protect your investment and can yield higher resale value.
